The Brazil World Rally Team is set to break cover on Vodafone Rally de Portugal at the end of March prior to contesting the remaining 10 rounds of the world championship.
Young Brazilian Daniel Oliveira will head the team as part of a three-year driver development programme alongside Portuguese navigator Carlos Magalhaes.
Initially, Oliveira will use the Prodrive-developed Super 2000-version of MINI’s Countryman-based World Rally Car before switching to the MINI WRC on Rally d’Italia Sardegna in May.
The Brazil World Rally Team will receive technical and operational support from Prodrive in the United Kingdom, with respected team manager Paul Howarth and engineer Nick Navas heavily involved in the project. Brazil World Rally Team’s president, Frank Allison Maciel, and manager, Paul Handal, will also perform key roles.
It is planned to register the squad as a WRC Team entry and, subject to funding being secured, a second car will be added to the line-up by 2013.
As well as overseeing Olivier’s development as a driver, the team is keen to grow interest in rallying in Brazil.
In addition to his 11-event WRC campaign, Oliveira will undertake several tests in the MINI and also tackle the Codasur championship in South America in a Subaru Impreza in order to build his competition experience.
